about maggie

Maggie McGrann is a freelance costume designer currently residing in Pittsburgh, PA. She holds an MFA in Costume Design from Carnegie Mellon University as well as a BA from the University of Richmond in Richmond, VA where she studied Theatre & English. She has also studied music theory in the Evening Division at the Juilliard School.

Maggie believes there is no wrong way to have a body and prioritizes emotional management and intelligence as a cornerstone of her anti-racist artistic ethos. Her primary experience is in devising, new script development, and performance; her propensity for dramaturgical script analysis makes her a valuable collaborator in the new work space. Maggie studies the constructs that make up the world around us, including the implications of different lived histories in American culture, as well as different systems of meaning-making from religion, astrology, personality tests, and the like. She spends most of her subconscious efforts in observing people around her and the way clothes empower, distract, hide, or reveal. The intuitive relationship between person and clothing mirrors that of storyteller and audience. Compassion, patience, generosity, and perceptiveness unfold when we get dressed, and when we listen to stories about ourselves and one another, we find connections that root us. By holding these truths, Maggie honors the artists whose bodies she is privileged to dress in her work, as she focuses on compassionate collaboration in all her endeavors.

If Maggie has piqued your interest, feel free to contact her for more information about her work and availability for any collaboration.
